前田家から厚遇され知行を受けた本阿弥光悦(1558-1637)は金沢にも居を構 えた。孫となる本阿弥光甫(空中)も同じく更なる知行によって金沢にも住み、 裏千家4代仙叟そして初代長左衛門が京都より金沢に出向いた頃と重なってい る。空中は本阿弥行状記を書き残し、陶芸では信楽風の作風を得意としており、 この茶盌は当家に長く伝わるものである。一般的な空中信楽されるものとは違 い、根津美術館所蔵の銘「武蔵野」と同類のもので、手捻り風の茶盌のようで もある。高台脇には「空中」の彫銘がある

Honami Koetsu (1558-1637), who received generous patronage and fiefs from the Maeda clan, also established a residence in Kanazawa. His grandson, Honami Koho (Kūchū), likewise lived in Kanazawa through additional fiefs, coinciding with the period when the fourth-generation Urasenke Senso and the first-generation Chozaemon arrived from Kyoto to Kanazawa. Kūchū left behind the Hoami Gyojoki (Records of Honami’s Life) and excelled in Shigaraki-style ceramics. This tea bowl has been passed down in this family for generations. Unlike typical Kūchū Shigaraki style, it is similar to the bowl inscribed “Musashino” held by the Nezu Museum (Tokyo), featuring a hand-formed style tea bowl. The foot rim bears the carved inscription “Kūchū(空中)” .
